A 6-day/5-night Tsavo East & Tsavo West Mid-Range Safari combines two of Kenya’s most iconic national parks for a diverse wildlife and scenery experience. Tsavo East is famous for its vast open wilderness, dust-red elephants, Galana River and Yatta Plateau, while Tsavo West offers a more dramatic landscape of volcanic hills, lava flows, springs and rich wildlife.
The safari is ideal for travelers who want a comfortable mid-range safari experience with quality lodge or tented-camp accommodation, guided game drives and enough time to explore both parks without rushing.
Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive toward Tsavo East National Park, Kenya's largest national park. The park is known for its expansive semi-arid wilderness, red elephants and impressive landscapes.
Arrive in the park around lunchtime and continue with an afternoon game drive. Explore the savannah while looking for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes and, with luck, lions or other predators.
Continue to your mid-range lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast, head out for a full-day game drive through Tsavo East.
Explore areas around the Galana River, Aruba Dam and Mudanda Rock, where wildlife can often be found around water sources. Tsavo East is particularly renowned for its large elephant population and vast open landscapes.
Enjoy a picnic lunch or lunch at the lodge before continuing your afternoon game drive.
As the day cools, continue searching for wildlife before returning to your accommodation.
Enjoy breakfast and depart for Tsavo West National Park.
The landscape changes considerably as you enter the western section of the Tsavo ecosystem, with volcanic terrain, hills, lava formations and thicker vegetation.
Enjoy an en-route game drive as you make your way toward your lodge. Depending on arrival time, you may visit Shetani Lava Flow, an impressive volcanic formation within Tsavo West.
Check in at your mid-range lodge or tented camp and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
After breakfast, spend the day exploring Tsavo West National Park.
Begin with a game drive through the park's diverse habitats, searching for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards and other wildlife.
Visit Mzima Springs, one of Tsavo West's most famous attractions. The springs form a clear-water oasis surrounded by lush vegetation and provide an important habitat for hippos, crocodiles and birdlife.
Continue exploring the park in the afternoon before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Start the day with an early breakfast followed by a game drive toward areas around the Tsavo West Rhino Sanctuary.
Tsavo West is home to a protected black rhino sanctuary and offers opportunities to see some of Kenya's important wildlife species. The park also supports diverse birdlife, with more than 600 species recorded by Kenya Wildlife Service.
Continue with wildlife viewing through the afternoon. Depending on conditions and the selected route, explore scenic viewpoints such as Poacher's Lookout or Roaring Rocks.
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and your final night in Tsavo.
Wake up early for breakfast and enjoy a final morning game drive.
This is your last opportunity to photograph Tsavo's wildlife and landscapes before leaving the park.
Depart Tsavo West and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon or early evening depending on traffic and road conditions.
Your safari ends with drop-off at your hotel, airport or preferred location in Nairobi.
