Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, rising to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level. Located in northeastern Tanzania near the Kenyan border, it is a dormant volcanic mountain made up of three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Its highest point, Uhuru Peak, is found on Kibo and is one of the famous Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. Kilimanjaro is renowned for its five distinct climate zones, which range from lush rainforest at the base to an arctic summit covered by glaciers. The mountain lies within Kilimanjaro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and attracts thousands of climbers every year. Although reaching the summit does not require technical climbing skills, proper physical preparation and acclimatization are essential. The best times to climb are from January to March and June to October, when weather conditions are generally more favorable.
